How it works

Each character in the string is counted; options on the page may separate counts with spaces, without spaces, or both. No data is sent to a server for the count itself.

Ideal for Twitter/X-style limits, meta titles, SMS and form maxlength checks.

Examples

“Hi” → 2 characters.
“Hi there” → 8 characters including the space.
Emoji and punctuation count as characters according to JavaScript string length rules used by the tool.

Character Counter FAQ

Do spaces count?

Yes when the “with spaces” count is shown. Use the without-spaces figure if you need only visible characters.

Are line breaks counted?

Line breaks are characters in the string and are included in the total unless the tool explicitly excludes them.
